SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
This person functions as a key member of the Medical Communications Group with strategic input and planning for an assigned product or therapeutic area. Drives the development of publication plans and manages publication program strategy and initiatives as described in the publication plan. This person will focus on defining scientific message platforms and related publication plans for assigned products. This person will also lead content creation activities including oversight of authors and of external medical writing vendors and their functions including research, writing and editing of abstracts, posters, presentations and manuscripts, in accordance with good publication practices (GPP3) and industry standards. This person may also oversee the end to end publication process including process development, publication management system and tools and training of end users. Provides administrative oversight to assist with the staff training and onboarding process. This position may be responsible for supporting Medical Communications functional leadership activities including managing staff and external vendors, budgets and publication activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Publication Strategy and planning
- Provides leadership in the development of publications, publication plans and high-quality medical communications outputs (e.g. manuscripts, posters)
- Oversee literature and gap analyses to support scientific message development and publication strategy for the PKU franchise
- Oversee planning and development of publications, Congress activities, and ensure scientific messaging is aligned and statistical analyses validated to support the Global Market Access Franchise
- Oversee planning and development of the Epidemiology/Real World Franchise publications, Congress Activities, literature analyses, and disease burden and epidemiology assessments
- Provide Medical Communication support to the expanding scope of WWRD activities taking place globally
- Organize and implement advisory boards and expert meetings necessary for publication strategy development; collaborate with MDs to develop agenda and content, manage vendors, attend and present as needed
- Develop, communicate, and implement scientific messaging platform for the client products in support of the publication strategies and publication planning efforts
- Facilitate and ensure the external/independent development of treatment and management guidelines
Publication Content Creation
- Research, draft, and edit scientific and medical manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and presentations, including incorporating author and reviewer comments
- Manage agency and/or contract medical writers and/or statistical programmers, as needed
- Oversee required graphic design for publications
- Ensure all medical communications outputs meet the highest standards of medical/scientific integrity
- Ensure activities adhere to authorship and publication guidelines as stipulated by ICMJE and GPP3
Publication process
- Oversee the processing of new publication concepts in Clear; when new publication concepts are approved by the core team, export the new information from the publication management system to update the publication plan posted on the Medical Communications BioWeb page
- Oversee the daily maintenance of all Publication records that make up the publication plan in Publication Management system:
- Ensure all publications are recorded and disseminated internally when complete
Publication systems and reporting
- Oversee the maintenance of, and optimize the publication management system, including keeping user, drug, and study information up to date, maintaining workflow and email templates, managing built-in filtering and reporting capabilities, and monitoring integration with the internal publication review and approval system, Clear
- Oversee the provision of support to internal and external publication management system users ensuring best practices are leveraged; help with initial and ongoing training including creating and revising training materials to keep current with process changes and software upgrades
- Periodically audit publication management system to determine completeness of records and level of compliance with industry guidance; use the results to identify potential areas for process improvement
- Develop and maintain publication metrics dashboard based on data extracted for publication management system
- Represent Medical Communications in all decisions related to Clear, the internal publication review and approval system to ensure that our needs are met and the system is compatible with our publication management software and industry guidance for publication development (i.e. GPP and ICMJE authorship guidelines)
- Oversee and manage MedComm BioWeb including content development and usage reporting and the O365 content center, including file structures and permissions
- Oversee the maintenance and improvement of CIRC, the global scientific and medical research subscription system for The client, and ensure that The client users are trained and aware of the system and capabilities
- Oversee the development and maintenance a system to house the scientific messaging platforms and integrate with library system
- Oversee and the preparation of Sunshine Act report documentation and deliver to compliance function
Publishing
- Oversee the following publishing activities:
- Execute publication graphic design of figures and tables in Microsoft and Adobe, including incorporation of subsequent change requests
- Compile materials required for electronic abstract and manuscript submissions
- Copy edit manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and presentations for grammar, spelling, layout, data and reference accuracy, and alignment with pre-specified formats and industry standards
- Arrange for payment of Open Access and other publication-related fees
Congress / Convention Management
- Oversee the following congress related activities:
Congress Spreadsheet & Calendar
- Develop a master congress spreadsheet used across company
- Develop and maintain yearly congress calendars
- Posters & Presentations
- Manage all aspects of scientific poster production including poster design in Adobe InDesign or PowerPoint
- Contribute and implement ideas for improving poster development process
- Develop tracking spreadsheet for each congress
- Manage printing/shipping logistics
- Congress Cards
- Develop Congress Cards - all dates, times and locations of posters and presentations will be included.
