Lab Director!
This role is responsible for leading and managing our testing laboratory. You will ensure the lab produces reliable, timely, and accurate test results while fostering a strong company culture.
Responsibilities
- Lead the laboratory team and oversee all lab activities.
- Develop and implement strategic initiatives to ensure consistent quality, client satisfaction, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with clients and internal teams to deliver projects effectively.
- Provide operational, technical, and administrative support across all departments.
- Coach and mentor staff to help them grow professionally.
- Ensure all testing meets internal and external quality standards.
- Maintain up-to-date practices and processes to optimize lab efficiency and accuracy.
- Oversee equipment and technical resources.
- Manage staff performance through evaluations, training, and one-on-one meetings.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 17025, QA/QC programs, and other accreditations.
- Collaborate with colleagues to improve lab management systems.
- Work effectively with the VP of Operations to achieve business goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Microbiology, or Food Science (Master's preferred).
- 10+ years of technical laboratory experience and 7+ years of management experience.
- Business acumen and experience managing a P&L of at least $10 million.
- Extensive experience in food testing.
- Knowledge of food microbiology testing methodologies (MLG, BAM, AOAC, USP, ISO, CMMEF).
- Understanding of ISO 17025 requirements and AOAC Food Guidelines.
- Proficient in proximate and analytical chemistry methods and instrumentation.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and troubleshooting abilities.
- Proven ability to develop, adapt, and validate testing methods.
- Expertise in relevant laboratory technologies.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Knowledge of Labware LIMS a plus.
